Another week, another #thirstythursday adventure for my fellow beer venturers. This week? We're takin you along with us as we visit Red Collar Brewing.
We landed in this humble tasting room on a Saturday afternoon after some
panicked holiday shopping. To say we earned a few brews would be an understatement. So we were beyond stoked when we walked in to see a comprehensive tap list, calling our names. We snagged a tray of tasters of every single one of their beers: 12 in total.
Truthfully, I came in dying to give their Dubbel's a try. Word on the street was their recently released Double Dubbel was worth the hour drive alone. And let me tell you, it didn't disappoint! Red Collar is inspired by Belgian style beers, and the Double Dubbel is no exception. Their OG Dubbel (that's what I'll call it to differentiate for you) demonstrates chocolate, coffee and toffee tones. It pours dark, as to be expected. The Double Dubbel amps up the coffee flavor profile, being fermented on freshly ground coffee. It definitely lived up to the hype, in my opinion.
Also a crowd pleaser at Red Collar is their Tripel. Continuing on the Belgian tradition, this ale of trappist origin offers fruity notes on the sniffer and on the tastebuds. Watch out for notes of banana and clove.
For those of you visiting, and looking for what we would call an approachable brew, we recommend the Kamloops Common an easy drinkin lager.
I will definitely be adding their IPA to my apres ski beverage list. It was the highlight of the day for me. Unfiltered, crisp and balanced.
Bonus? Red Collar bombers are available at a retailer near you! Just head into your
local liquor store, and request this stuff. We were happy to head home with a sack full of beer after our visit.
If you have a chance, we encourage you to read up on the Red Collar story. We've all heard how important the water is in brewing say, a Guinness and Red Collar's ability to design beers for the water from the Shuswap is notable. We appreciate the science, what can we say?!
Overall, we were delighted with our visit to Red Collar. We, by happenstance, sat next to a Red Collar team membe, Lara,r who was beyond knowledgeable and an absolute delight to chat with about BC's evolving craft beer scene. We always appreciate a brewery that doesn't try to be everything to everyone, and isolates their zone of genius. Despite a robust tap list, their old world showcase left us eager for our next visit!
